Details

LEDspec is a stand alone LED-based bio-photometric detection system targeted at flow analysis and single-scan applications. Absorbance can be measured simultaneously with high precision and dynamic range.

Cost effective

LEDspec can be equipped with up to 7 LEDs of different wavelength. Its noise (< 0.1 mAU peak to peak) and drift performance (Dual-beam approach)

LEDspec is based on a dual-beam approach. Light sources related baseline drift caused by warm up, temperature stability and bulb aging in conventional single beam spectrometer systems is avoided. A reference channel in the LEDspec corrects for baseline simultaneously with the sample measurement. Life time of the LED modules is virtually unlimited.

Absorbance, transmission, intensity

LEDspec allows measurement of absorbance, transmission or intensity at a single wavelength or at multiple wavelengths. When the detector is setup for single wavelength detection, very precise fluid injection analysis systems can be assembled, Using two wavelengths, baseline offsets caused by e.g. particles in the sample stream can be observed and automatically subtracted. Measurements at several wavelengths allow for multi-wavelength calibration. The result of the measurement can be calculated, calibrated and scaled to the user¡¦s desirable dynamic range.

Works with LWCC

LEDspec is ideally suited for WPI¡¦s fiber optic sampling equipment. High sensitivity detection systems for flow analysis can be assembled using WPI¡¦s Liquid Waveguide Capillary Cells (LWCC) with effective pathlengths ranging from 2 to 500 cm. These setups are frequently used in fluid injection analysis systems for nutrient analysis (nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, iron) in oceanographic applications.

Data collection and analysis

The analog output of the LEDspec can be connected to WPI¡¦s Lab-Trax-4/16 data acquisition system for data collection and analysis. High precision intensity, absorbance or transmittance measurements can be obtained in less than a second. Only a few parameters need to be adjusted to obtain data. Chromatograms can be displayed and logged to disk. Data Export is supported in ASCII, and Excel formats. Pumps and valves can be controlled via the TTL level digital outputs of the LabTrax system. Data collection can be triggered by TTL leveled external inputs. The LabTrax software package allows display of recorded data and performs mathematical computation, derivation, smoothing, quantification and other mathematical manipulations.
